Quote: Darryl Gomez: The Appreciation Medals of President Dwight D. Eisenhower The cat is out of the bag for me. Write-up submitted: The Appreciation Medals of President Dwight D. Eisenhower Collectors are generally not aware that President Eisenhower gifted his personal medals during his: 1) Three goodwill tours, 2) Stays at the Summer White House, 3) Informal visits to allied nations, 4) Attendance at the Paris Summit, and 5) End of second term as President. Notably each medal was designed and manufactured by the US Mint. This presentation provides a first hand introduction to these presidential numismatic artifacts. Very neat! Looking forward to all of them. I didn't know anything about thee Eisenhower medals. A friend of my parents was very good friends with Dwight and he used to go fishing at their cabin on Clear Creek in Colorado often enough. After he was POTUS the Secret Service would tag along, which my Dad's friend told us was always weird, understandable, but Dwight hated that he never had the freedom again to just be - well Dwight and not the POTUS. He sure did love his trout fishing time, I recall a Life magazine article where he was interviewed at the friend's cabin about fishing and vacationing there as often as possible. I heard the tales of this sometime around 1975 or so.

DrDarryl, hope to see your talk online in a recorded version, as I had to miss a few time slots over the weekend, unfortunately your talk was one of them, sorry. (They are all supposed to be posted in recorded form soon). I did get to attend most of them, and my first NBS Annual meeting, which was nice. I learned a lot about subjects I wasn't sure I'd enjoy as well as ones I really looked forward to seeing. Bill Eckberg's 1815 talk I've seen a few times, and posted his EAC talk link here on CCF before, was still great - again. David Fanning's talk on ancient coins in early US auctions was downright nirvana, and a subject I thought wouldn't interest me at all. All in all it was a good numismatic weekend. Between the ANA E-seminars and the Newman Portal Symposium have made the Covid-19 numismatically more interesting for sure.

Quote: Might be something to do but I probably will miss the entire thing. Pretty safe to say you already did miss it "just carl" as it happened last weekend. I just got my after seminar survey request and in that they said every presentation was recorded and will be put up for later viewing on your own time, for free at the Newman Numismatic Portal. As soon as I get my notice I will post back here and let you all know the link to them, nobody needs to miss out on all that numismatic fun and knowledge. Not so sure about how the ANA E-learning seminars will be handled, though I imagine they will be put up on their website or YouTube channel, most likely.
