I have the opportunity to sort and do my first grading on a number of Walking Liberty half dollars.
1920 - 1947
Greatest Challenge is I have found a few that have the date totaly worn off (10x magnification).
Other than Melt value, is there any value to thes coins?

In that state with no readable date ,, I would assume that all other detail is also lost ? I'm afraid that the coin numismatically is of little value, although they do have intrinsic value for a number of other things besides melt, at aound 7.00 per ounce the coins are worth maybe 2.50 more or less, but they could be worth a lifetime of fun to a new collector, I have seen a young one post on this forum in the last few days and participating in the contests and such,, any Ideas come to mind?

Thanks Rick
Have great Ideas, but coins do not belong to me I am sorting 60 silver dollars and 200 halves a mate of mine found in the wall of their house as they were remoldeling. I am like a kid in a candy store - They are going to sell it all off. I am cataloging the coins for them.

first offer they got was for melt but they have some nice coins which will bring the price up.

still want to know which clan your tartan is from?

Hey rggoddie,

I know people who lile to make jewelery form that type of coins. Also others like to melt "coin silver" down and cast them into rings and such.

There are a tremendous amounts of dateless Buffalo nickels shipped to Japan (at least there was) for making into jewelry. I know my dealer was approached a couple of years ago about sending dateless coins over and the prices offered were very, very good for a dateless coin. He stated, literally thousands and thousands were being sent yearly! Anyone else hear anything like this?

I like the idea of targeting the younger collectors. Also, if these coins are to be sold on ebay or some other aution site, putting them together in a lot should net more than melt value for them. There are collectors who are only interested in heavily worn coins because the history behind them is the draw for these collectors.
