This is listed as a Constantine II nummis. The seller says it's 1.27 grams. I confident it's not Constantine 1 or 2. I'm not sure who it is.
can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks in advance

Obverse looks like: dn constan-tivs pf avg

Reverse: GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS

I think it is Constantius II. Wildwinds has one listed under a SMNS mint mark with this text
Quote:
Constantius II, AE4, Nicomedia. 337-341 AD.

DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG, laureate and rosette-diademed head right.
GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS, two soldiers standing by one standard
with O on banner.

Mintmark SMNS.

RIC VIII Nicomedia 11, rated C2

Known mintmarks for RIC 11:
SMNA
SMNB
SMN gamma
SMN delta
SMN epsilon
SMNS

That one is SMN delta I think.

Constantine II as Augustus after daddy's death 337-340AD

Obverse reads DNCONSTAN-TINVSPFAVG

Nicomedia RIC VIII 5

The seller got the reference right but the bust and mint mark wrong.

Agreed - Constantine II as Augustus, and I might add, quite a bit scarcer than you might think. IMO, these are scarcer and more desirable than even Delmatius.

Is there an example I can compare it to?

I can't to find the RIC number on Wildwinds.
Is there another example I can compare it to?
The Ribbon(not sure what is it called) extends onto the neck and the bust is a different style than most of the Constantine
II coins

There is one coin listed under Ric viii 5 for Constantine ii, if you got control+f and search "Ric viii 5" it'll come up. Though, imo, it's fairly dissimilar to this one.

I did this on that page and got 7 results but none for Nicomedia. Am I missing something?

Hi Zac.

Coins of this period have seemingly endless variations and as a result, it can be hard to find other examples online even when the coin isn't exceedingly rare. Wildwinds doesn't have your variation and I haven't been able to find another example on any of the sites I frequent.

I found a couple of worn examples of this variation from a member's gallery on FAC.
