i reckon genuine coin due in part to the fact that you found in a minefield as at that time loads of Chinese migrants (gold rushes), reason why there aren't much old coin in China especially silver one in good condition is due to the fact that they melt them down number of reasons. As long as you can figure out that it silver and looks like old silver its very likely too be real even tho while scarce.
there is a resident expert he also Aussie, gxseries should be able to give you a better run down if your up for it. :/

I'm certain it's genuine. If you can take a photo of the edge, that would tell a lot more.
Despite the chopmark and reverse damage, this is still a very popular coin. I would price it easily in the 100 dollar mark. (If genuine)
Some scarce coins do come from various countries. I'm not surprised if it's from a deserted town in middle of no where in Australia. Afterall, migrants went everywhere.

I would like to know more history what the Chinese was doing there at that time. It looks like chop marks showing on both side. Nice coin!
