I have many foreign coins, a few of which have nicks on the rim. I'm going to post one Vatican 1831-B Scudo as an example. It is a somewhat rare version and there are two currently on ebay. The coin's surfaces are both excellent (I would say XF-40), but there are about 6 small nicks on the rim. I've read a couple of articles online that indicate that the nicks downgrade the value significantly. Could someone please take a look and let me know what you think? Thanks.

I think worn as a pendant, probably a religious man, and maybe a dealer repaired it the place of the mounting... at the "reveZationem" word.

One or two would be little to no issue. Multiple like this would "details" the grade and bring the price down.

Cleaning is usually ok for Italian Papal collectors, but rim nicks are not. While this is a rather scarce coin it would probably be a details coin for the nicks and the repair
