Your coin is just the victim of environmental tarnishing or elemental staining. This is seen in coins that have been buried underground or subject to weathering over a stretch of time. This is not a mint error, but rather simply post mint damage.

to the CFF! We hope you'll stick around!

Copper nickel coins usually stain to this color, as a result of burial.

If they coin was missing a clad, then the strike would be weaker:

Also the color would not turn back to the normal color when the higher areas a showing circulation. Just spender. Not an error coin:

I agree with most of this. However, the confirmation would be in the weight of the coin. If it was missing "Cladding" the weight would be off by a noticeable margin would it not?

Just slight amount for a missing clad on one side. More so with both missing. Did everyone catch the weakness of the strike?

About 16% or about .9 grams. 32% or 1.8 grams for both clad layers missing.
