Hi guys!
Got this very attractive and high grade 1865 halfpenny, upon closer inspection with a 10x loupe, I noticed some extra features in the 5. There is a small chunk sticking out from the end of the loop of the 5, another piece coming out from beneath the tail of the 5 and also a small piece (not really visible with angle of photos) from the left side of the top of the 5.
Opinions?

There is an 1855/3 listed in my book and it's values at 35 pounds in F and 95 in VF. I am not sure if you are right as I have never seen any before.

That's an interesting digit, but I don't have any familiarity with UK overdates.
You might try an overlay with other digits and see what matches?
Are those two spiky features jutting from the top part of the 5 raised as well?

I'm not sure about the two spiky features, that may be a trick of the light because I can't see those under a loupe.
I was able to find a few of the over-date variety with big enough pictures for comparison.
Those coins both had the extra features in the same exact places as this coin, but they were significantly more pronounced and could be seen even without a loupe.

Here's one:http://www.coinsandstamps.com/forei...y/fc8791.htm

And another: http://www.sixbid.com/nav.php?p=vie...d=91&lot=311

And one more: http://www.sixbid.com/nav.php?p=vie...d=91&lot=312

So yea, I would love to figure out if it's the variety or a very convenient die fill or something.
