Hello Coin Community,

I sent this coin to NGC hoping for an FS Designation. This coin did not receive that grade. Can you all let me know why it did not? Should I try a different grading company?

Thank you,

Ryan

Those steps are not full . There are interruptions and hits on some of them .

Definitely not full steps, especially along the bottom right of center.

Too weak at the bottom of the steps. Reverse image looks digitally sharpened. It's a nice, fairly early die state coin even without the FS.

Yes, just enough hits and nicks--no matter how gentle--have prevented a 5FS designation.

Not full steps. Nice eye appeal though.

Obviously you have two exceptionally nice 1938D's having only one or two grades higher. Many collectors and investors would like these coins and based on how close they are to full steps don't mind mentioning how much more in value your coins are worth over the "MS" grade designation. At minimum you should be able to get 40-60% of the full step appraisal. They are just that good. I just posted on a nickel that has severe die cleaning. A perfect example where eye appeal carries a higher selling value than grade.

way too many ticks across the steps to even be considered as FS
