Only my third ever Twenty Cent 2004 pointy A. Found while going through my Granddaughter's money box.

yes, nice to find a 2004 20c A's in circulation. These disappeared from circulation very quickly soon after the alleged 400,000 ? were released by the RAM all the way back in late 2004.

The 2004 50c A's is available in only about half of the 67,795 RAM mint sets which makes these 2004 50c A's a very low mintage 50c.

Sorry - are you saying there is a pointy A in the 2004 fifty cent as well? In circulation? Or only in mint set? I have a mint set with both coins pointy A. Does the 2004 fifty cent Koala coin have an occasional pointy A?

i think they meant to type 20c, not 50c.

btw, I've only found 1 of the 2004 pointy variety

I meant the 2004 pointy A's 50 cent which is only available in the 2004 RAM's UNC sets.

All 2004 RAM UNC sets have only the pointy A's 20c in them as far as I know from
checking over 200 + 2004 RAM UNC sets.

From memeory, the fabulous Wedding sets from 2002 to 2009 with 6 special satin like finished coins in each of them, have all got the pointy A's on the coins.

I don't know of any 2004 50c Koala student design coins with the pointy A's being minted for general issue by the RAM. Could they have been included in the 2004 Koala Baby mint and/or Proof sets ?

Interestingly, the 2004 50c coins in the Proof sets with the FLAT A's has a smaller mintage than the 2004 50c Proof coins with the pointy A's.

Why would RAM mint two types of the Proof and Standard UNC 50c coins with either the Flat
or Pointy A's ?

I think the explanation in McDonald's is that they switched from hand-engraving to digital engraving in 2004 and the change must have happened part-way through 20c and 50c die production.
