My question is if there are broken T dies that are not doubled. And if so, are broken T dies rare (so only limited coins from it)? In 136 coins I searched I only one two I think are broken T's. If they used different hubs to create the dies, then that would explain what we are seeing the hub process back then was three times for cents. Some of the older cents show quad doubled dies. So If the hubs were broken, distorted from use, worn or a new hub used, then that could affect that one device. I would expect to see differences of hub doubling is a new/worn hub being used. The devices could be taller. If the hub was warped, then it could create wider or taller devices on just one area. But a broken hub would leave a void where the hub chipped off. What does a broken hub look like? We seen this on the 1936 cents on the 'R' on Liberty. When you look at a broken hub issue, it would look like a broken device off of a coin. We often die chips as a raised area on the coin. Well a broken hub would leave a void: How is a die chip and a hub chip different. On the die chip it affects only that die. On a broken hub issue, the affected area could be on several dies created with the broken hub. I've not read anyone confirming this, but it came to mind when the question was asked. I didn't know the making the working dies off the masters took that many times. So its possible that there are just broken T coins out there if the working die somehow had press perfectly from the broken one without changing it out and they didn't care/notice.
