Hi all,
I am a new poster and I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this piece of paper money. I am totally in the dark on this one. I am hoping someone can give me some info on it? Date, denomination, what type of note it is, etc. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I believe it to be P-2085. Denomination: 1Chuan.
This is found in the Specialized Catalog of World Paper Money under Provincial Banks/China.
Issued by: Hupeh Provincial Bank and in either 1899 or 1900. The date on this is different and I can't make out what the character is supposed to be. (it would help if I read Chinese but I can only match shapes) Your banknotes year appears to be 34 but that doesn't reckon out correctly.

A similar note is listed here: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/c...CINS2085.htm The date on it is clear as year 26 or AD 1900.
See here: http://db.kelleherauctions.com/asia...=1870&lang=1 to a recent auction that netted $5,000 Hong Kong Dollars - or about US $645.

It is also listed as S/M 171-1. This refers to the Smith Matravers catalog number. There is no picture of it in either catalog, however.
Researching these by design is DIFFICULT as there are A LOT of Chinese banknotes out there (really!) from various banks and issuing authorities. Here's a similar design, but obviously not your note: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/c...CINS0823.htm

Hope this helps!
