I was wondering if this type of doubling on the date is common? Its a 2.5 gram large date and I haven't seen it before so I would appreciate any help.

Better pics would help, but this might be "split-plate" doubling.

I believe what you are seeing is what is called split plate doubling. Common on zinc plated cents and they carry no premium.

This is a zinc cent. The bubbles on the surface of the fields is from plating over zinc dust on the planchets. It the plating gets split during the stike, the zinc under the plating will cause that area to rise when oxygen, get to the zinc. This is not doubling, just the zinc rot starting on that area. It is a spender as the coins time is counting down. So spend. No premium for a problem coin.
