Hello,

In my pursuit for nice quality (and authentic) 8's, I pickup up this Bolivia NGC certified KM-84 Potosi 8 Reales, Ferdinand VII bust.

Zohar444- great coin! Congrads! This bust type has always struck me as rather interesting in that it wore rather badly. By this I mean that it seemed to loose detail rather quickly, just as the Barber coinage did. It's awesome that you were able to find such a good example of this type.

Nice coin, another feather in your cap. Have you decided on a plan for collecting 8's? Type set by ruler/mint? Date run? Specialize in one particular mint? The possibilities are endless. My suggestion is go for one of everything so you'll never finish and never lose the thrill of the hunt. Keep those pictures coming.

Indeed tricky. I will look to expand on the Rulers for the various countries, less mints/dates. I am not sure I can allocate that type of budget given the Taler demands. The key, as suggested in the forum, is to find authentic pieces over time, which I will aim to do.

And hunt for "high grade". There are lots of authentic low grade 8's out there (heaven knows I have enough of them myself) but what I have learned over time is hold out for the higher grades. These coins in XF and higher are truly much harder to locate than their value would indicate. I have been trying to "upgrade" my date run whenever I can locate a better example and there are some where I have never seen anything (affordable) better than the fine/very fine I already have. But that is what makes this whole hobby fun, you never know what you'll see next.
