I have many 1943 steel pennies but one stands out for it eye appeal. It has a proof like appearance with no visible marks.i know common grade examples are worth very little but I was hoping this would grade high. I attached picture and would appreciate opinions. I have no idea what distinguishes the differences between the mint state grades.

Looks possibly re-processed. Can you show us the coin with different lighting and the edge, please.

A common practice to reprocess 1943 steel Lincolns mostly for novelty but some scrupulous dealers will try to profit from them .

Too bad the Mint only made proof sets from 1936-1942, no 43's . I would have loved to see what a proof 1943 steelie would have looked like !
BTW the Mint resumed making proof sets starting 1950 .

Thanks everyone for your help. I've had the coin for many years so I am not out any money.

One of my favorite coins. I have well over 4,000 of them. And a sort of replated collection of them also. So many have been replated with Copper, Chrome, Tin, Zinc and maybe even Silver. I'd like to get one plated in Gold and Silver.
