Look like lathe lines to me, if you look closely there are several parallel lines on the rim and in the fields near the rim. Just my guess. Someone else might know more than myself though and chime in.
Thats interesting. I see the pressumed lathe lines. However what stands out to me is what appears to be doubling. A rotation of the coin while in the chamber could account for both. Or it might have something to do with the rim, and reeding. Although that normally leaves what appear to be ''tooth'' marks on the coins surface. Now I have to go back and check mine. With your help, yes I do believe they are lathe lines. Not a lot of info on early coins with this defect but found several articles regarding cents with this defect.
