Half-Crown-Lima-1745-With-1805-Date-Also-Included?

Hi all,

I have a 1745 Half Crown Lima (pictured - apologies for the terrible photos) which also looks to include "1805" in the center.
(possibly 1850 or other combination of those numbers)
I haven't seen this variation elsewhere - does anyone know if this is legit? Or possibly if it was added retrospectively, or even if the coin might be a reproduction?

Thanks.

This is a love token (given as a sign of affection between lovers), the date and initials were engraved later. This is PMD to a coin collector, but there are also collectors of love tokens. Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the replies.

I see Lima coins on ebay selling for anywhere between £50 and £150 (UK). Does anyone have a rough idea of this coin's value (given the love token engraving)?

Retail would be around £45-50, perhaps a bit more. Expect less if you are selling privately or to a dealer.

Condition wise, your coin is in the goodFine level. Shame someone decided to carve their love into it 215 years ago.

Ironically this was one of the latest Halfcrowns circulating in 1805 (The number sequence suggests its almost certainly 1805 and not 1850 - more archaic lettering and plus by 1850 you had a plethora of late Georgian and early Victorian halfcrowns to desecrate).

None were issued between 1750 and 1816!
