It's on record that the San fransisco mint had a set of 6 die set, that means the die would stamp 6 coins at once they were so small u would have not tried to stamp one. Regardless of that can you c a s of not.

To the OP , sit back take a very deep breath and realize ........that is not an 1870 S Half Dime .
When it comes to our own " RARE " coins we often see what we want and not what is really there .
Now go and find a nice cup of Joe , go to YouTube , find " King of Wishful Thinking " by Go West
and relax!
There are many , many numismatic experts on this forum who are here to help , but then a " real "
expert comes along and really shows what they know .
Best solution spend your $150 send the coin to PCGS and let us know how your expertise turned out .
I too will help with the grading fees!

To answer the OP's question, no, I do not see an 'S', I don't see anything that even resembles an 'S'. If you're so confident that this is an 1870 S, send it to PCGS, when it comes to extremely rare (US) coins, they are the ones who will be able to tell you if this is real or not.

There is no S there. And take conder101 word, they were not striking 6 coins at once in San Fran in 1870.

Half Dime size coins have been struck on single die sets for centuries.

Appears to have no mint mark to me. I can't see a hint of anything resembling a mint mark.

.... to the Community Doodatt!

What you think you are seeing is not there.

If you really think the coin is a product of the San Francisco mint then nothing anyone tells you here will soak in. You might as well send it in for 3rd party grading and authentication. It's your coin and your money!

Good luck!

This is a Philadephia coin. As mentioned, send it in to a TPG to confirm it if you believe this is a S Mint coin.

It is on record that a set of 6 die stamp was sent to the San Francisco plant. Which they started using in 1872

OK. But your coin is from 1870. Correct?
