Hey everyone! My name is Kris, as in a woman and not a guy lol, and I'm 36 yrs old. I live in Knoxville, TN. I got into collecting coins shortly after my 1st husband passed in 2016. I find it so calming to just sit there and go through a bunch of coins. For me, it's not about how much something is worth, more that I find it fascinating that I can hold a penny from 1894 in my hand! I wonder where that penny has been and how many hands it's been though. I started out collecting older US coins, but I'm starting to get into error coins as well. Which, I think I have a couple that I will post, to get some opinions on. My fiance, knows how much I enjoy collecting coins and looking for errors, he checks every bit of his change before it hits his pocket, just in case he comes across a good one. But, I'm hoping this will be a great place to get some good feedback. I happened to stumble across this forum while doing a google search for coins. Thanks for the welcome, in advance! #9786;#65039;

Welcome, two things I've always thought this hobby needs more of, women and younger people.

Lancek, I'm really just a nerd at heart lol. I enjoy the things, what most people would consider boring. And southsav, it kills me when people I know find a cool butt coin and their first question is, "wonder what it's worth!" It's like no, put more thought into it! Like, where did it come from, who had this as part of their extra change?!? Not just the monetary value of it. It's so frustrating lol. Then, the person will look it up and want to try and sell it to me! So infuriating to me lol.

They know I collect and happily give me any odd coins they find, but simply don't understand the collecting mindset; for them, the only reason to collect stuff is to make money out of it. When I tell them I'd never sell my collection for profit and don't even know what most of my coins are actually worth on the current market, they just shake their heads. It's a problem as old as coin collecting himself. The "first coin collector of the Renaissance", Petrarch (1304-1374) gave some ancient Roman coins as a gift to the Holy Roman Emperor, hoping to enthuse him about coin collecting and about the historical and moral lessons the hobby could bring. Much to Petrarch's annoyance, all the Emperor wanted to know was how valuable they were.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
