Need some help with this one.

I think it's a factory token from a Kuhlmann factory in L'Estaque, possibly used to pay workers?

Usual online sources (Numista and Token Catalog) don't have much info.

Weight is 2.75 grams, diameter is 16 mm.

Looking for any info on date and/or use.

Thanks as always for your time.

You are correct. It is a token and you can find a similar one on Numista. The size and weight are correct, but these were not dated. I am not sure the K means anything more than Kuhlmann because the letter K wasn't officially used in France until mid last century.

Googling in French the best I could find was that Charles Frederic Kuhlmann ( died 1881 ) founded a chemical company in France. In 1916 the company under his grandson bought land at L'Estaque to build a factory. The company merged with others in 1971.

Your token looks like it is made of zinc. Zinc was used in France to make coins in WW2 because it was not of military value. As far as I can make out from Krause zinc was not used to make state coins in WW1, but I would not know about tokens.

From the above I suspect that your token dates from WW2. I note that it does not display any value. Could it have been a canteen token, or similar?

I would be very interested if anyone has more.

Thanks for the input.

Yes, I saw the other example on Numista already but aside from weight and diameter there's no other information available.

I'm not sure about the composition as it seems much denser than Zinc. For instance, a 1940 German 1 pfennig is the same diameter and made of zinc, but weighs 1 gram less.

I would have put the time frame around WW1 and the construction date of the factory there, if accurate, appears to confirm that.

It looks like rather an inexpensive thing to make, so I was expecting it to be much more common than I'm finding.
