This is a 101BC L. Sentius AR Denarius. But I am confused because it only weighs 2.2 grams. It is 20mm in diameter, and a little under 1mm thick. Could someone please let me know if this is a modern fake, ancient fouree, or a authentic ancient government issue.

Probably no way to know for sure based on simple observation. I suppose internal crystallization is yet another possibility. I do think that the ancient fouree counterfeit suggestion is a distinct possibility. That would be my guess.
The problem is that a genuine example probably would not weigh as little as 2.2 grams... even with significant wear and crystallization. And the coin does look awfully thin for a denarius.
