So I was going through some old Wheaties I've had for a while and this was the second to last penny I was putting back after looking at them and I dropped it on the table, it sounded strange, light aluminum almost. So I weighed it with another 45 and it weighs 2.5g Everytime. Ideas? It is non magnetic, doesn't have much of a rim but nice full strike I think. Thanks in advance. The cent in question is the better looking one in the pics on the right, and the top one on the thin comparison. Thanks

Coinfrog, looks like maybe. I tried to take thickness pictures from both sides and one side seems thinner than the other. Thanks

*After closer look it seems to be the same thickness all the way around except for at the date it is slightly thicker.

Rolled thin planchet. Possibly with a slight taper, or the die faces slightly out of parallel.

A legitimate mint error, worth a premium but nor a take your wife out to dinner premium. Unless you are planning on McDonalds.

So I may just roll the dice and sent this in to NGC. I've got a credit from my membership anyways and 1945 is a year with at least three known planchet errors for the penny, two from the Netherlands and one from Ethiopian one cent...Whatcha think?
