Hi, I'm totally civilian, and don't know much about coin errors. I read that there is a shortage of coins due to covid, and checked my stash. Found weird coin, first thought it's some kind of glue, tried to clean it. Here it is. What is it, and is it worth to keep?

Looks like a stain from a cup holder?

It's shines like a copper, looks like metal too. Definitely not a glue or enamel.

to CCF. Looks like PMD of some kind. Might be epoxy? John1

Thanks John! I'm not sure it's entirely enamel. I took extra images, one under bright sunlight, and another in total shade.

If it's not glue, it's some sort of environmental staining as coop suggested. Not a mint error, post mint damage ( PMD). Keep if you like it, but it's not a money maker, sorry. to the CCF!

I'd bet a penny if you soak it in acetone it disappears.

Quote: if you soak it in acetone it disappears. How about nail polish removal? I soaked the penny into it. Let's see. ))

It will stay the same. Acetone doesn't remove stains that well.

Yep, so far it's the same. I still wonder how that could happen. Someone tried to create the "error" intentionally?

jbuck, thank you! Perhaps I will not stay long with you, but who knows. I found something similar to narrow AM pennies, I guess. I had no idea that "hunting" own coin stash can be so entertaining. )))
