After searching a bunch of 1979's to help a member out on here regarding the obverse, I was checking them for anything else out of the ordinary and I come across two that look like this.

After looking online, I found that it is called "Mortar Set" but never fully understood why something like this happens and I was curious to know what the deal is with mortar set coins, I looked using the search function on the forum but it only took me to old posts dating back to 2013 so I was not sure if things have changed since then but last I heard they aren't that easy to find but I may be wrong.

Mortar set is caused by the chipping or flaking of the chrome plating on the die.
The definition hasn't changed in over 50 years.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Thank you for the reply DBM, I was more refering to if there was a change of if mortar set was commin or not, Not the actual definition of mortar set itself.

I just wanted to know how common this particular 1979 coin with mortar set was.

SPP would likely be able to offer in on how common or uncommon they are. I myself have found a few in the last month by going though most of my collection. I find KGVI cents and tombacs are a good place to look for them in my experience, I also found a 1950 F German 10 Pfennig with some major mortar set. I'm actually surprised to see a coin this recent showing a somewhat strong case of a mortar set.
