Bas S Warwick. I have been collecting Ceylon paper money for quite a few years and have extensive knowledge of the issues.
You have a 5 Rupee note issued by the Government of Ceylon. It is from the 1925-1939 Elephant on Back Issue printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Limited, London, England. Krause Pick 23a(1). I use (1) and (2) because there are two types. The 1 has a straight left edge and was issued as individual notes. The 2 has a perforated left edge (like a postage stamp) and was issued in a booklet. The date is 2nd October 1939. Signed by Harold James Huxham, and Guy Stanley Wodeman.
The stamps on the back make the note less valuable. PMG and PCGS will note it on the holder as "ink" The notes were stamped when they were used at payment at different businesses. Kayts is small island off the coast of Jaffna Peninsula in the North of Ceylon. Usually the city is stamped with the date and the business
The Krause catalog is a bit under in value. This note would sell for around 100 USD in the condition it's in.
It is a nice Pre World War 2 note and quite desirable.
