Hi All,
I'm a new member, so please excuse if this has been answered before ... I found a mint bag of 1962 Canadian pennies and am attempting to sort them. The catalogues say there are some with a missing 'M'. I cannot find an 'M' anywhere on the coin! Is someone able to tell me where I should be looking and how much magnification I will need to see it?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for your help! I'm just trying to establish whether the '62 pennies have any value really. Should I take the time to put them into a cover or roll them, or ... ?

The Harp and guitar coins are worth looking for. Also, if you find a true MS66 that is worth keeping.
Otherwise, an MS65 is not really worth sending to ICCS as you will likely not be able to get the price of the holder out if you sell it. Hanging 2 coins are also easy to find unless MS66.
There is not much value to any searched BU Elizabeth rolls unless 1953 to 1956, 1983 or 1985.

If you have an original mint bag sealed, look in the bottom for fragment strikes or other errors

Yes, the bag was sealed. I'll have a look!

Update ... finding lots of hanging 2's. Sure is time consuming going through though ...

Hey, does anyone know what the discoloration is on this coin? It looks like metal, came from a sealed bag from the mint and has a green hue when there's light on it. Thanks in advance! Entrepid

That looks like a carbon spot. The coin was probably contaminated before it was sealed in the bag. This is very common on 1960s roll and bag coins.

Fingerprint smudge from a mint worker, in 1962, which eventually lead to corrosion and what you see now. Mint bags, while still sealed, are full of coins like that.

Perhaps. It's difficult to see in the photo but the spot appears to be raised and has brush strokes. The overall area is almost a perfect square ...
