Hello everyone,

I found this 1982 D small date about a year ago. Now I'm trying to decide if PCGS or NGC would be best to send it to for grading. I became a member of PCGS but soon realized they didn't grade the others. This 82 sm date weighs 3.11g. Thank you in advance for your help...

Hello John911 and to CCF!

Did you weigh this coin?

This coin looks like a copper platted zinc penny to me.
The pictures are blurry but still looks to be a copper platted zinc penny but if you personally weighed the coin, I cant dispute that.

If it is copper and not a zinc core penny, send it to PCGS. You get a better return on investment with PCGS.

Copper Alloy 1959-1982 weight 3.11 grams according to the " Red Book" the coin is normal.. now, if you find one in 83' you've got something.

Make sure your scale is calibrated. Then weigh it. Post a pic of the weight please.

Hello John911,

I could not find any transitional 1982 D small date copper pennies graded by PCGS.
But NGC has graded two... https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-explor...coinid-13044

And sold for VERY GOOD money in 2019.

For the most part that is true sirguardian. However, there are only a few 1982 D small date cents that are transitional copper and worth a lot of money. I agree with merclover, I would like to see this coin on a scale with a clear pic taken.

Not too surprising, there are only two pieces known.
