Hello all. This is the reverse of a 1986 LMC. Is this a crack die or simply mint grease? The lines starts from the rim between ED of UNITED down to a portion of the memorial building. There are also some lines on the field? Your feedbacks will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

junjie

Grease fills in the recesses of the die where the letters would normally be. It makes letters disappear.

A die crack is like a crack in a sidewalk. If an impression is taken of the sidewalk, the impression would end up having raised jagged lines where the cracks are.

I'm sure with that you can figure out which one this is.

HI, thanks coppercoins so it is a DIE CRACK (which should be the correct terminology). And this photo should be a nice example of a 1968 Lincoln with a missing L due to mint grease. Thanks too TreasHunt.

I think die break is more the term, a die crack is usually reserved for a more severe break in the die resulted in a thicker raised line.

All I know is that's the oddest 1968 Lincoln Cent I have ever seen. Looks much more like a 1986 Lincoln. The letters of LIBERTY didn't have that shape in 1968.

Ops you are right coppercoins. The photo is of a 1986 LMC. You've really got those eagle eyes for details - education is surely the true key to a collectors success! Thanks
