Hey everyone. This is a flashy 1899 Indian Head cent graded PCGS MS66+. It's a coin I could love if the spots didn't drive me crazy. In particular, there is a nasty carbon spot above the shield on the reverse. I've been waiting years for a spot-free MS65/66 red IHC without any luck. I chose this one because it has relatively few spots compared to similar examples. My question - would NCS be able to remove these spots? Is the coin too clean for them to consider working on? I probably won't keep this one if the spots are here to stay. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Those spots are very small, only a minor distraction and likely permanent. I doubt if NCS would try to remove them if they thought it possible.

Much better photos . Save your money , that coin would not benefit conservation . There is really not that many issues with it and the few that there is are very small . I would leave it just the way it is ; You have a beautiful high grade IHC .

Right, leave well enough alone. In my experience, carbon flecks do not deter many collectors of high grade red IHC, though they are distracting to me.

Thanks, guys. I'm leaning more towards keeping it as-is now. Even the set registry coins seem to be spotted more often than not.

for an interesting comparison, visit Rick Snow's site http://www.indiancent.com and scroll down under " Indian cents" to a similarly spotted 1877 PCGS 65+ CAC at $80K!

I feel your pain with trying to find a spot free 65. I finally found one a few months back...

It is not a brand new coin so leave it alone.

first pics are not flattering and it looks better in the others. I agree to just leave it. Its not so bad, although the spots might bother me aswell.

I sorta cheated. I work for a dealer and he had EERC keep an eye out for one for me. But it is very nice in hand
