Do a search on this site in either this forum or the general coins/tokens forum and read all of the posts on "brass" 1859's. The only way to tell is an XRF analysis. Report this Post to the Staff
Leonitus1916 Valued Member Canada 91 Posts	Posted 09/04/2020 10:27 am Thanks guys yeah I read alot on the 1859 brass from the forum and have a few I need to get tested, this one just seemed like a right fit since the vine break at 7 is small which means it was made early in the Production from what I heard and its a very thin planchet with the yellowish colour, even though I know color doesn't make a difference. I just wish there was a better way to tell, if anyone knows of any die markers that are on these brass cents it would be greatly appreciated Report this Post to the Staff
okiecoiner Pillar of the Community Canada 5589 Posts	Posted 09/04/2020 1:03 pm There are absolutely no die markers for the so-called "brass" cent. Since it was improper mixing of the bronze alloy for the planchets, the planchets could have been fed to any number of working dies .. early in the production process or late. We did an extensive study which was published in the CN Journal. Try to find it in the March 2012 magazine. A long article with extensive data. Report this Post to the Staff
