That looks more like gas caught under the surface of the plating. Nice find all the same! 'The King's Booger' error!

Not a die crack, rust is forming beneath the plated surface.
Might be a minor die crack from the top of the head to the G and out to the rim.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

@DBM, this is certainly an occluded gas error in the plating process. Corrosion would look much patchier and spottier. The clear channels, while being somewhat diffused and non-linear, indicate trapped gas.

The plated V nickels can be an unbelievably interesting series... especially as they were used to test all sorts of wartime measures (and some of these, including the famous Tombac Nickel, made it out). The process was relatively new, and there are so many varieties to be found. Yes, they are prone to mutilation / corrosion, but if you study the production process hard enough, and compare to other issues, there is a lot to be learned.
