here is another nickel found in a bankroll of nickles. the area around the date, and all the way up to the word liberty, is either a mint error or some kind of damage. I didn't realize that there is also something going on on the reverse in the same area, from the second A in America upward. comments are greatly appreciated.

excellent, large size Cud.

Great find.
Usually they are far smaller.
The reverse is effected because the obverse was missing part of the die and there wasn't enough pressure to properly strike it.

Cud simply refers to the section of the coin that is not struck up, becuase that part of the die broke off.

It was coined by a numismatic author, who's name escapes me at this moment, but is similar to the Cud from a cow.

value?
That is a large Cud, so I'd would guess (Pure guess) around $10.
It would probably be higher if the date were showing.

The only dumb question is the one unasked.

Ive gone through thousands of dollars of nickels and have only seen one anywere close to that big, excellent find. If you find the right buyer you can probobly get more than $30 for it since Cuds that size truly are quite rare. - XoG
