I won an auction the other day. The picture in the auction showed the coin in the original Gov. packaging with COA. When I received the coin, it was in an SGS holder, graded MS70 of course. No Gov. packaging and no COA. The description didn't say "The coin you see is the coin you get". The coin looks to be in good condition. Not MS70, but not hashed either. A good 67 or 68. The price I paid was still good for the coin, but I like my COA's.
Should I be upset about this?. I know, "am I happy with the coin?". Yeah, but should I be OK with the manner in which it was presented to me?.

I would be mad, if you didn't spend to much for the coin paypal (if you used that) should have you covered and you can dispute it if he wont give you a refund. It takes 45 days but its worth it. Thats a major description error and I am sure you would win the paypal claim. All and all its up to you, if your still satisfied with the coin you got then keep it.

Yes, to the paypal question. The coin was good for the money. I think I'm just not going to buy from that seller again. Also I decided to leave NO feedback.
Thanks Marine...and Semper Fi.

OH NO! You need to neg the seller so the rest of us know what he does! Help your friends out.

I don't think I would give a negative without giving them a chance to make it right.

In this case I would. Just because they darn well knew they had one picture and were going to send another item. That alone cannot ever be made right and deserves a neg.

I would email him, he may have got shipments mixed up of the same date coin and two different buyers, if he did you emailing him can give him a chance to make it right for both buyers. The one person may have wanted the SGS slab (you never know). Mistakes do happen and I never assume the worst when something like this happens unless they tell me they did it on purpose then I would give a neutral because of the item not as pictured or something

Try to work it out with him first. Never just give a negative, and like Ration says, help the rest out if he isn't working with you. I never really liked SGS slabs to be honest.

Do you have the link to the auction?

Maybe I was hasty after looking at Bryan's post. I can see the seller mixing up shipments or something. However, first inkling I got that they intended to send something other than what was pictured, I'd be right there with a neg.

I think everyone deserves a chance to explain their actions and make it right. If they cannot justify the misdeed, then by all means throw the book at them.

IMO you should post the seller's ID and auction link here too. Then make sure to follow up so we can make a judgement on if we'd ever deal with the seller. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you should give us a name, then never post what the response is, leaving them forever in limbo on our site... Also, I know I sound militant with posts like I made here, but I have only actually ever given 1 negative in all my years on ebay. And it just killed me giving that one.

In over a thousand transactions on ebay, I've given only two or three negative feedbacks that I can remember, and those were for outright frauds and only after I'd e-mailed the seller, and in later years filed a dispute with ebay's system. I recently also had a "situation" with a CCF member who offered a coin and then suddenly put it up for sale on ebay. It looked very odd, and then after I won the bid and sent a money order I didn't receive the coin, in spite of several e-mails. I then filed a dispute. Suddenly, I received a long and passionate letter from the seller's mother - yep, I'd been dealing with a kid - saying that her son simply forgot to send the coin and then panicked. Eventually I did receive the coin, and although I posted a low shipping time response, I did post a positive. Now ... did he post a positive for me? Never. Oh, well.

Leave him neutral feed back for the bad description. It's not bad for him, but lets everyone know to check him out before buying.

It depends on whether you want a refund or not. I would. And I would not expect to have to pay shipping either way. If this caused me to initiate a PayPal dispute I would not hesitate. First contact the seller. Explain that you didn't receive the coin you were expecting based on the listing. Explain in depth. If the seller does not offer to make things right at no expense to you, and if resolving the issue requires any extra time and effort on your part, then of course a negative would be required--if not for you, then for the good of the next collector. But you have to give the seller a chance to make it right.
