I will follow these first shots with some close-ups. What appears to be damage or corrosion might actually be the beginnings of some toning?

I was looking at the prices for this coin in the upper MS grades which can tend to be quite pricey.

I always seem to have trouble getting great shots of these red copper proofs. After seeing the close-ups to follow let me know if these first two do the job well enough for an accurate grade.

Here are the rev. close-ups using the same clip-on hi mag lens which only shoots a small/limited area before it goes out of focus:

The white specs on these shots are just dust and do blow off.

These last two photos, especially, the right stalk might help the grade out a bit:

Also, I have seen several PCGS Photograde pictures showing a horrible looking/toned coin with a very high PF or MS grade. What actually causes the toning to lower a grade if that is what is keeping this grade down to a PF 61?

I do not want to deviate too much from the grading but can certain types of toning cause etching up to a point where the grade is lowered as a result. Is etching or altered patina present among the discolored areas of my coin?

A few of the photos posted appear to be taken through a distorted lens (microscope lens?). Difficult to judge given the highly reflective lighting and somewhat out of focus images. Toning--artificial or not--is the result of exposure to an agent which has reacted with the copper. Nothing new there.

I'm split between Impaired Proof details and PF61. Larger, sharp, high resolution photos of the full coin taken under diffused light might tell a different story.

Looks to be impaired due to improper storage, PR-61 details.
