1878 CC Morgan For Grading

Firstly, the coin has been polished within an inch of its life. That harsh of a cleaning will kill off a lot of the value of this coin unfortunately. The detail of the coin places it in the AU range, had it not been cleaned the value would have sat at around $220. Due to the cleaning it would likely fetch a fraction of that. Personally I'd place the market value of this coin at around $100, though it may go as high as $120. Generally lightly cleaned coins on CC coins can sell without a significant issue, but when its to this degree it will either not sell at all, or at a significant discount.

Yeah if it was polished it was back in the 1940s or 50s by his grandmother, which sounds like a grandma kind of thing to do.... unfortunate! He has several other Morgan's that are supposedly in good shape, they're about 1,000 miles from me so just kind of looking into this stuff with them remotely. Still a cool coin, but probably tough for these types of coins to have survived 1950s silver polishing.
