A friend gave me a 1907 one rupee. Can anybody tell me what's it worth? The images are below:

I really can't tell if this is the Calcutta or Bombay mint. The Calcutta mint had no mark, but if it is of Bombay, then there would be an incuse "B" on the bulb-like piece of the crown just below the cross at the top. Either way, both mints are worth $8 in VF. The reason why the value is rather low is due to the high mintage:
The Calcutta mint = 170,912,000
Bombay mint= 81,338,000

Too bad it's low grade. Struck Raj coins are/were (Recession) HOT.

roots- what do you mean they were "HOT?" Do you mean that they were popular in high grades to collectors?

I mean Indian Raj issues were finally selling well. It hasnt gotten as hot as China, but within 6 years I believe they will be as hot as Chinese material.

roots- hmmm interesting. I must admit that there is very little demand for these in the US. But I absolutely love colonial Indian coins and wish that I could find more.

Indian coins have always been hard for me to find. I dealer I knew thought the "Indian" community had their own system of coin exchange.

roots- hmm interesting concept, but I don't think it is very likely. It seems that a lot of Indian coins tend to be of little interest to people around here and therefore end up in junk silver shipments rather than on dealers' tables.
