Hi,
I found a bunch of these 50 cent coins, all with similar discoloration. Do they have any value or does the colour make them so unattractive that they don't have any value to a collector?
Thanks in advance ...

It will bring it down a grade or 2 but a lot will depend on the year.

And it will depend on the appearance of each individual coin. Can't generalize about toning or discoloration.

As mentioned, it is fairly subjective, but I think it's safe to say that the pictured coin loses value because of the discoloration/toning.

Symmetry is sometimes considered when gauging the effect of toning or colouration like this. That is, a ring of even tone around the rim is preferable to something that is only on one side. I've even heard it said that, if there are two areas of toning, a left-right bracketing is preferable to something assymetric..... Basically, eye appeal is subjective but there are some loose rules to it.

pure nickel doesn't typically colour like that. Real toning will still show strong lustre through the colours... look at any early specimen or proof strike, as an example.

Part of a coin's value and interest is always eye appeal. Some coins have it in spades. This coin is nickel and of little collector value but the coins that are taken home usually have grade and eye appeal working together.

there is no grey area when it comes to CDN 50c

damaged coins like these, unless a KEY/semi key date, are metal/face value only.

PERIOD.
