David if I could, remove the coins from the set and place them in mylar holders or a coin cabinet, the set has an air leak obviously which is leaching air into it.
I am considering a 1984 set with the same issue, halos of tarnishing on the Cupronickel but the Bronze and brass are fine - although in your case they are not.
When you remove them, use gloves or handle by edges with clean hands and fingers - like coinfrog said, do not try to clean or dip them in any way.
Value wise, the dealers I work with say they have high cat values of like £35 or £40, but demand is quite low, as mintage numbers were high (100k+) and there is no precious metal content in these sets. A good set is worth to me around $25 NZD and an impaired one like yours - half that figure.
To be honest, you could probably get a fault free one quite cheaply like AUD $20 from a dealer desparate to offload it.
Don't worry I have a thing for BU and Proof English modern coins too - I just spent about $60 on the 1983 - 1986 UNC sets.
