Cherrypicked this one as it seemed in decent enough condition and I didn't have one in my collection. Proofs really aren't my thing but there are some interesting ones so worth looking at on occasion.

Interesting. I would probably have assumed that it was something on the coin, or it was buffed up (might look different in hand).

Always learning more.

I would call this one an over polished die example. Note how thing the motto devices are and the area to the right of the face looks like flat field doubling.

I feel these are caused from Machine Doubling on the first strike, and on the second strike of the proof cent, they are flattened into the fields. If this were an re-engravement issue, then it would show on the second strike as well.

Nice example Bats.

(Isn't the re-engraving on this one on the lower front of the vest under the date?)

EDIT: There are two of these re-engraved dies for the date, with FS-401 being the most difficult to find. The Re-engraving is also on the front of the vest, but contained to the area below the 1 of the date.

Thanks! I honestly don't know much about how these came about but yes it's the bit along the vest below the date. I was talking to Brian Raines the other day (he discovered them) and it reminded me to look around for them.
