While visiting friends in London this past week, I took the opportunity to look for a 2008 silver proof set (new shield design). It took me a few hours to find a shop with one in stock, though the dealer, who probably took me for a foolish tourist (can't deny that I am not) had an asking price of 249 uk pounds! I thought it a little odd this item was selling for 149 pounds on The Royal Mint website a few months ago.... So I left it alone, it seemed fishy to me. Was the dealer pulling my leg? I know London is an expensive city to live in, but jeez... I could just as well buy the 2009 set online, and that is what I will probably do. Edited by alfonse

I was going to buy the set with the new shield design, not the older design. Would the price differ between the two?

Oops, my mistake.  Frankly I can't find any of the sheild design sets available online. If they are that scarce, maybe they can demand that price. If I remember correctly, the mintage was pretty low on those sets. |

To get more help you should change your title from Outrageous Pricing! into something much more specific and you should get much more help.
snowman, I've loved your aviator(?) for a long time. Time for me to get one but where? Almost time for ice fishing...

Very High with Silver at $10 I would go where the supply is ebay and buy it off there. |

Hi Doc. Ice fishing sounds awfully cold. For me, December-March is the time that I use to breakdown my gear and get it ready for next season. If I'm lucky, I sometimes sneak off to someplace warm to catch something big. As far as the avatar, you may want to try Aussie ebay. That is where I found mine. They are becoming increasingly rare though. |
