Have there been any reports of these? I think I may have possibly found one. It clinks just like copper, golden yellow in color, and definitely does not sound like a zincoln. [Pictures below.]

I did not have the flash on, just the macro setting and the lighting is from the bathroom (one of the whiter places in the house).

How much does it weigh?

If it's copper/brass it would weigh 3.1 grams. If it's a zincoln it would weigh 2.5 grams.

I'm not sure if there are any reports on these or not. Something to look into.

Hope this helps.

I don't know about any 2006 brass plated strikes being made, but I have three 1983P brass plated strikes and they all weigh 2.50 grams each, the same weight as a regular zinc 1983 cent.

*Info from Mr Potter's site- Brass plated strikes were made on the 1983P ,1985D, 1997, 1997D and 1998P Cent*.

Weight is not a distinguishing factor.

If your 2006 coin is brass plated that's one thing making it maybe the first found for 2006.

If it weighs the same as a copper cent (3.10 grams ) , then I would say you have a very special/different/rare etc cent.

Can you weigh the coin and also post a picture of the coin?

Here are two pics of one of my 83's. Its pretty hard no being able to tell them apart.
Has a golden color to it as compared to the normal red color cent.

hm... I know for sure that there are 1983s that were made on old brass planchets. I have a few myself, but I don't really know if they're that rare...

mkman:

Hi,

No, these are not high value/ premium coins.

MS graded coins under $50.00 for a MS66 Grade and that's if you really want one. I found mine years ago (mid 1980's) in rolls but I personally would not buy one if I didn't have these. I'm not collecting brass plated strikes, but for someone who is, then maybe they would pay that price for one.

The coin shown at the top of the thread exhibits signs of environmental damage which may have changed the color.

In most cases the 'miscolored' coins being advertised as brass plated or otherwise some sort of error are just environmental damage.
