This one puzzles me the O of GOD on the motto looks like die fiddling at the Philly Mint. Radical for a greasier IMO Top of O appears as complete voided area. Couldn't find a listing on anything similar for the 1900. Any opinions?

I don't own the major reference work on this series - it may be a well-known broken-digit die variety, no idea. Surely an experienced Barber nut can shed some light on this.

Surfing the Newman Numistic Portal I found a brief mentioning and photo of it. David Lawrence lists it as the 1900 "Broken O" variety pages 53,54 in "The Complete Guide to Barber quarters second Edition 1994" by David Lawrence.
Neat looking die variety, I remembered the Newman Portal and there it was for the 1900.

I only see I/II and II/III listed for 1900-P (both Lawrence and Bowers). Is II/II documented elsewhere? 1900-O has II/II. I have become fascinated with Barber transition varieties because they are so poorly documented, appreciated, and not attributed by TPGs. Interesting coin and I never knew there was a broken O.

kbbpll I could have the dies wrong, just recently started even peeking at the series. Cherrypicked a roll and a half at a flea market table. Defaulted for original surfaced coins on left, cleaned or environmentals on right. To many distractions by other buyers at his table to check dates or mm's. Picked up quickly the guy didn't like me looking at every one so offered 5 bucks each my choice? He accepted and I was off and away in about 5 minutes. Overall at greysheet they list at 550 so did well but I wonder what I may have placed aside to the right?

Yours certainly appears to be II/II to me. I poked around on PCGS last night and I think I found another II/II as well as a I/III for 1900-P. I recall an article or two in the BCCS journal archives on NNP regarding these quarter transition varieties, but the paging, zoom etc features on NNP seem to have disappeared this morning so it's difficult to read anything. The 2013-2014 variety survey by BCCS also only shows I/II and II/III for 1900 - http://www.barbercoins.org/Barber-Q...ieties.shtml - so more digging around, I guess. :)

Here are what appear to be II/II and I/III on PCGS.

Had some ebay bucks so purchased Kevin Flynns book on Barber variety coins. Looking forward to reading it and learning about the series, looks like there is potential bargains in undervalued dates such as the 1913 P 483,000 minted and in G you can pick them up in original condition for under 20 bucks. Compared to some others coins like 1913 S type II buff 1909 S vdb etc am scratching my head...market dictates yes - but still kinda neat learning these backwaters in low demand scarcities.
In the lot was one that had been harshly cleaned with about VF+ details, looks completely different than the old workhorses in G - VG. Was surprised by Barbers work maybe my opinion of this designers work are changing for the better. Amazing series for my curiosities, definitely will be purchasing an example in AU for reference but not until I learn the basics of these.
If this is in fact a II/II with the broken O which it seems to be then the coin may be a goodie to have ANACS look at and attribute.

Creating new topic thread for clarification as I have located the broken O on 2 separate die parings.
Please see "1900 P Barber quarter broken O obverse paired with 2 different reverse dies"
