What's Your Experience Of The CCCS?

Silver101 Pillar of the Community Canada 1081 Posts	Posted 10/04/2020 5:00 pm I'd be curious to know what peoples' experience of CCCS has been? A dealer who I quite respect says that he's thinking that going forward he'll use CCCS for coins having lower probable sale prices and PCGS for those that are particularly scarce or valuable. Seems plausible to me but I'm a firm believer in multiple opinions. I'm particularly interested in the Victorian Newfoundland coins. I don't see any NFLD on their POP reports which makes me a little nervous about that particular slice of the pie. Any and all opinions welcome...! Report this Post to the Staff

papeldog Pillar of the Community Canada 1923 Posts	Posted 10/05/2020 10:35 am I have used CCCS for grading I think they are in the ball park for grades. I also think they have one of the best hard slab holders on the market, you can read what coin it is in the hard slab without removing from the box info is on top of the holder, pricing is good for either hard slab or soft slip holders. Return time is average they have a record of coins graded by them, they have a web page, and if you live in Canada there's no cross boarder customs hassles good deal all round for Canadians Report this Post to the Staff

I'm specifically interested in Victorian era silver.... I have a bunch of VF-range coins that are worth putting in a hard slab for the sake of preservation but not worth the cost of PCGS... okiecoiner Pillar of the Community Canada 5589 Posts	Posted 10/05/2020 2:33 pm Louis made some errors in the first few years of service, but he has ironed things out. CCCS will certify varieties much better than ICCS and their grading is right where is should be. I personally, would take CCCS over ICCS if I were ever to certify a coin, which I DO NOT. Learn how to grade and study varieties and you'll be just fine. Why give your hard-earned money to someone who just gives an opinion, right or wrong and encases ir in plastic and paper?. Silver101 Pillar of the Community Canada 1081 Posts	Posted 10/05/2020 3:07 pm I realize there's a diversity of opinion around grading. my personal take is that the vast majority of coins do not benefit from this process. My concern is with the more scarce and/or higher grade coins in my collection. One of my recurring nightmares is that i'll open up a 2x2 and drag the end of the staple across a nice frosty surface! So....preservation of the really rare things matters to me. Appreciate your input. And I know some of you have experience with NFLD so I'll take that as a (somewhat qualified!) endorsement.
