What happen here? My 1996 D Lincoln Cent is split on the obverse and reverse side all the way around. There are a few die chips on the obverse and reverse side also. Thanks you guys

That is called zinc rot. The copper plating has been compromised exposing the zinc core. The corrosiopn process has started. Spend it before it's gone

Whenever you see that gray color on 1982-present cents, it means exposed zinc and a high potential for corrosion.
