The photos might not do it justice but I came across this penny and the color was remarkably red. More red I've ever seen. The only thing I could think of was that it aged or toned like BN coppers do, but slightly differently. What do you think? I added a BN penny for comparison.
, Just a business strike . Notice the rounded edges on the coin and the dullness of entire coin . Even If it was an impaired proof it would exhibit some mirror-like shine .
Not a proof. Copper is a highly reactive metal. Exposure to select environmental agent(s) caused the red 'brick-like' hue. I've come across many, many similar red Lincoln copper cents over the decades.
Well I'm disappointed to hear that, but it's still a cool looking coin. If a proof was in really bad shape, would it still retain the reflectiveness then?
