I'd like to try my hand at cleaning this one. Haven't pulled the trigger on buying it yet because I don't like the coin as is. However, I think the obverse portrait can be cleaned to show a bit more detail - especially around the eye.

The obverse looks to be mostly caked on dirt whereas the reverse is encrusted. So I don't have much hope for the latter.

What do you guys think?

A nice long soak in distilled water never hurt anything!

I would leave it as is.

Hmmm unless I have the coin in hand, there's really no way to tell what shape the coin is in for cleaning. I guess it's all speculation. Yeah Steve, a soak in distilled water wouldn't hurt either.

Boy, I would really like to see that silvering pop though.
