I'm not sure what's going on here but looks like someone tried to deface the coin. Any help appreciated

Looks to me to be deliberate defacing post mint damage and a soak in an acid bath perhaps?

Thanks merclover. Took me a while to notice scratches are incuse. I guess that's why they gave it an acid bath to hide the damage.

Looks a bit like the coin was painted. Note the brush marks?

No copper clad visible on its edge, probably painted.
