To my own pleasure and benefit, I followed a link urged on another member of the forum: tokencatalog.com.

This enabled me to identify nearly all the tokens I own and to encase them in labeled 2x2's. One token caught me off-guard: TC-19643.

As you can see, it's dated 1892. According to the site, it's probably one of the first ever made out of aluminum. The description adds that up until 1899, aluminum was considered a precious metal. That, I assure you, is just enough info to tease and tantalize. Can an experienced token collector out there point me toward a ballpark value for this oddity?

Actually, according to Wikipedia, the development of two processes in 1886 and 1889 caused the price of aluminum to plummet. This token was made when it was cheap.

Unfortunately there are no general catalogues giving the value of tokens. There are catalogues of certain types, like transportation tokens, but these typically are not updated annually.

You have no choice but to check "sold" prices on ebay to get a realistic value.

There are so many medals and tokens and the market is very thin for a lot of them.

That being said, it is quite an interesting item you have there.

I thank you both. My tokens are in 2x2's held in those plastic pages in a three ring binder. I printed out the good stuff you were so kind to provide. That's in a sheet protector in the binder. I'll still have it when I need it. I'll do likewise with any help I get on this site. I'm not allowed to send PM's. I'm too new. Please accept some public thanks.

You are not far from being able to send PM's

And any more tokens you have to post please do. If for no other reason than to show them off.
