Quoting from Line 3 of the PCGS Grading Terms and Conditions: Quote:Grading involves individual judgments that are subjective and require the exercise of professional opinion, which can change from time to time. Therefore, PCGS makes no warranty or representation and shall have no liability whatsoever to Customer for the grade assigned by PCGS to any coin, except pursuant to PCGS's Guarantee resubmission as set forth on PCGS's website at http://www.PCGS.com. If I'm reading this right, doesn't this mean that PCGS is saying that they don't guarantee their own grades?

Quote: If I'm reading this right, doesn't this mean that PCGS is saying that they don't guarantee their own grades? It's no surprise to me. If they didn't have that policy they would have a high percentage of their opinions contested. Grading is partially subjective. As long as they are consistent I can live with it.

You paid for an opinion and that is all your getting. Legal has had it's way with this in order to protect themselves from the liability of those opinions.

What they are saying is that when they assign a grade that is the grade and the only way to possibly get it changed is to resubmit it for review or regrading. You aren't going to get it changed by arguing or asking them to change it. You want to try and get it changed, you have to send it in again. No other way to appeal the grading.

If this is true then CAC can't guarantee the grade either . I keep saying this ; Stop wasting your money on TPG grading your coins . '' Buy the coin not the holder ''. I only will buy a slabbed coin for it's Athentification to be genuine , hmm ? What if they are wrong with that call too ?

I disagree, but that's more because I directly am involved with the retail side of collecting. If coins are your home or car then grading is your insurance policy. From a marketing POV it is extremely useful and is well worth the cost of grading. It also takes some of the subjective nature of grading out (Which all TPG grading is an opinion). I actually just sent off some stuff to CAC today, though it's all stuff from my personal collection. While I don't need it stickered, I think of it as an additional investment, I don't stand to lose money but long term (50+ Years) I stand to gain a good amount. Plus CAC is like an extra policy for my insurance. While PCGS might be my homeowners insurance CAC is my flood policy.

IIRC TPG services do guarantee the authenticity of the coins they certify, so if they're wrong they will reimburse you, which is more recourse than you would get if you bought the same coin raw

To clarify on my previous statement I fully stand with the buy the holder not the coin, but disagree that TPGs and CAC are a waste of money. Especially CAC as if your coin doesn't sticker you literally lose no money.
