those would be die chips, Cuds include some portion of the rim.

I'd call these die breaks. Not a Cud. As mentioned the side of the die splits off when a Cud happens:

Most times the die gets a die crack on the wheat areas, then the crack develops chips on it. Then when enough of the metal breaks away, then it leaves a larger void. Thus these areas are called die breaks. Not Die Cuds.
