Can anyone help in identifying this? All I know is that it is Japanese. I would like to know the date of issue and what it is (it does not appear to be a banknote).

In one post, this was identified as a Taiwan lottery ticket, however, from what I can determine, the text is in Japanese. If it was from Taiwan, I would expect the text to be in Chinese. Does anyone know what language the text is in and can translate enough of it for identification?

The script is "Traditional Chinese" script. While Japanese can be written using this script, where it is called "Kanji" (one of the three commonly used Japanese character sets), it is usually mixed in with the other two scripts (Katakana and Hiragana); when used exclusively (as it is on this item), then the item is most commonly from Taiwan or Hong Kong.

In this case, it is from Taiwan. The first line in red at top left gives the date, using the Chinese Republican Calendar which is only now used on Taiwan: "5th day of the 9th month of the 67th Year of the Republic" - which would convert to AD 1978.

Sap is right, the third line means it is distributed from the Bank of Taiwan.

Many thanks to those who aided in identifying this item. I must admit that I knew some of the text was in Kanji but jumped to the "Japanese" conclusion. I also appreciate the translation of the date. I spent a lot of time online trying to find any information about it and could not come up with anything (which may be because I didn't actually know what I was looking for - LOL!).
